Centennial High School Key Club, Student Organization winner, is honored for providing much-needed service to the Garden Hills Food Pantry in north Champaign. Many of the pantry’s usual volunteers are older and, therefore, more vulnerable to the COVID-19 virus so were unable to participate as they usually do. This left the pantry without enough hands to distribute food to its clients.
Fortunately, Key Club president David Diep reached out to McKinley last fall asking if we had any after-school volunteer opportunities for the club’s members. The answer was a resounding “yes!” Since that time, a group of Key Club members has faithfully shown up at the food pantry, located at Garden Hills Elementary School and assisted with the semimonthly food distribution.
Join us on April 29 at 7 p.m. for a virtual celebration. Registration is free, but advance registration is required.
