In this exhibit, featuring oil-on-canvas paintings as well as several color photographs, McDonnell explores various aspects of the Midwest landscape. In the past, McDonnell’s artwork has reflected the connection between oceans and prairies and vast fields of corn. “What interests me now is a voyage into the center of a corn field, bushwhacking and discovering visual connections between shapes,” reflected McDonnell on the inspiration for her newest work.
Barb McDonnell has traveled extensively with long stints in fascinating locations, but always she returns home to the Midwest. McDonnell earned two undergraduate degrees in Painting and Art Education from the University of New Mexico. Since the 1970s, her work has been featured in exhibitions around the country and is currently represented at The Cinema Gallery in downtown Urbana. McDonnell’s hobbies include singing and gardening.
