William Capel – Photography
Artist’s Talk & Reception
March 16 • 4 to 6 PM
Artists’ Alley @ McKinley
The McKinley Foundation is proud to present “Flowers from Our Garden”, a photographic exhibition by William Capel. Running March 1 – 31, the exhibition features eight enlarged photographs of flower blossoms: three sunflowers, one green and one yellow zinnia, a red columbine, a blue iris, and a faded yellow daylily. Prints range in size from 27” x 40” to 48” x 48”.
This exhibition grew out of Capel’s use of emerging digital technologies that make possible extremely sharp, large-scale images. Capel enjoys seeing how viewers react to the previously indiscernible and unnoticed details contained in the heart of a flower. When asked about his personal reaction to the images, Capel’s response is simple: “Astonishment! The images, best viewed up close, tend to suck you in.”
Capel is a familiar sight and long-time McKinley community member. He is a life-time resident of Champaign-Urbana, a photographer since childhood, and a retired corporate executive.
Artists’ Alley @ McKinley is a new gallery space, located at Fifth and Daniels Streets in Champaign, Illinois, in the corridor connecting the McKinley Foundation and Presby Hall (private certified housing for University of Illinois students). It is a physical expression of the McKinley Foundation’s work to build a bridge between students and the local community. Artists’ Alley is open between 9 AM and 8 PM daily. After 4:30 PM, entry to the space is open through Presby Hall only (located at 405 E. John Street).
